W3 Energy

Successful wind power company comes into Norrlandic ownership

A one-stop shop for management, operation and optimisation of wind farms, that is now Norrland-owned. Norrlandsfonden has participated with financing in the transfer of ownership.

In autumn 2019, the management, in the capacity of Per Olofsson and chair Pär Dunder, bought the company formerly called Svevind Solutions from the former owner Svevind AB. The company changed its name to W3 Energy and is now entirely Norrland-owned.

“It’s very important to get things done at the right time and this deal was done at exactly the right time. Now we’ve started the new year with a new brand and a new business plan and we can move full speed ahead. This has been possible thanks to our financiers” says Per Olofsson, now majority owner of W3 Energy.

The original company was formed in 2010 after the Svevind Group saw the need for a company to manage the wind farms being built.

“It became clear to us that one success factor for a well-functioning wind farm is active management. But an actor that could deliver the broad expertise required was lacking.”

A milestone in the company’s history came when in 2017 it signed a contract with Markbygden ETT for the operation of its 179 turbines. When fully developed, Markbygden will consist of a total of 1,101 turbines, making it Europe’s largest onshore wind farm.

“Thanks to this deal, we are now a large team with unique expertise in all the areas that Swedish and international wind farm owners demand.”

In Sweden, major investments are planned in new wind farms and upgrades to the existing ones, in this W3 Energy will be an important partner. The largest investments that will take place in Norrbotten and Västerbotten in the coming years are in wind power.

Why do you believe in the client?

In Sweden, over SEK 70 billion will be invested in new wind power, plus there will be further investments to develop existing farms. Furthermore, the technology has developed a lot in recent years and wind power has become much more profitable.

How do you see the company's future?

My view is that this is a company that will grow substantially. The market is growing rapidly and W3 Energy is at the forefront of the industry in terms of expertise.
